My first project using TweenMax by Greensock was an homage to the short opening titles for the television series 'The Mentalist'.

It utilises some of the native 3D capabilities built into Flash Player 10 - so if it doesn't load, or doesn't work for you, chances are you are on an older version of the Flash Player.

I used to have a nice digital camera (Canon Digital IXUS 300), but it was more of a 'point and shoot' model. It was my main camera for several years. Then came Flickr.

With the advent of Flickr, came a whole new universe of people who'd never met before comparing notes and sharing technical knowledge. It was great, and highly addictive. It wasn't long before I decided to upgrade to my first Digital SLR (Canon 350D). Of course having an SLR with the 'kit lens' is pretty much like having a very large point and shoot, so then I decided I needed to invest in an array of quality lenses.

Having invested in several lenses, a few years went by and I decided it was time to upgrade my SLR to a more professional model (Canon 5D). At least I was able to use most of the same lenses I'd already invested in.

As is the nature of technolust, I eventually felt the need to 'go retro' (think of it as DJs who still swear by vinyl). I plonked out £80 on a nice film-based SLR (Canon EOS 30) and again, the same lenses that fit on the 5D would fit on this camera as well. Truth be told, I haven't developed my first roll of exposed film - so I'm not sure how earnest my attempt to 'go retro' truly was.

As for the three-dimensional cameras, I bought those in the early 80s. Nimslo is a camera with four lenses spaced apart in equal distances with the furthest two representing the average spacing of a pair of human eyes. The resulting four exposures are then printed out in thin, intermingled strips and then coated with a sheet of lenticular plastic which filters which strip is exposed to which eye depending on what angle you hold it at in front of you.

The Stereo Realist camera was very popular in the 1950s and uses the same principle except it only uses two exposures on slide film. The resulting pairs are then mounted in special slide mounts which can then be viewed using a special viewer - or projected in a special projector which would require the use of polarised glases (rather like the Imax theatres use today).

But enough about my cameras - here is a link to some of my most popular photographs on Flickr.

According to the note at the bottom of this Adobe KnowledgeBase page, there is a bug in Flex Builder 3 when you create a new Air application, it fails to insert the correct Air version into the application descriptor file (<app name>-app.xml).

You will need to try changing the namespace to either
xmlns="http://ns.adobe.com/air/application/1.0" or
xmlns="http://ns.adobe.com/air/application/1.1" or
xmlns="http://ns.adobe.com/air/application/1.5" depending on which version of the runtime you have installed on your system.

It was very frustrating for me as I received copies of the files we were using in the Adobe MAX 'Air Boot Camp' sessions, and none of them were working for me on my laptop - while they worked just fine in the lab.

This is because the files were set to the 1.1 namespace, and I only had Air 1.0 on my laptop. Editing the descriptor namespace to '1.0' allowed me to run the files fine - but naturally I wanted to update to the latest version of Air, so now I can change them to the '1.5' namespace.

I am fairly committed to using Gmail (Google Mail) as my primary universal email service, but once I got my new iPhone I found myself wishing that it too provided 'push' services like Yahoo Mail provides (as does Microsoft Exchange server and Apple's new MobileMe service).

The simplest way is to set up a free Yahoo mail account (assuming you don't have one already), add the Yahoo Mail account to your iPhone's email account list, then in Gmail create a new filter which tests for the condition 'is:inbox' and then forwards a copy to Yahoo Mail - which (you guessed it) gets pushed automatically to the iPhone.

If you haven't set up a filter before, log into Gmail and click on 'Settings' in the navigation towards the upper right corner of the page. Then click on the 'Filters' tab (between 'Labels' and 'Forwardingand POP/IMAP'). Then at the bottom of this page click 'Create a new filter'.

On the first page of your filter setup type the words "is:inbox" (without quotes) in the field 'Has the words:', then click on the 'Test Search' button. You should see the result is everything currently in your inbox.

Then click the 'Next Step >>' button, which will give you a warning to the effect this criteria will never catch incoming mail -- but it does!

The last step is to select 'Forward it to:' and fill in your Yahoo Mail account address. Then select 'Create Filter'. I would advise against selecting the tickbox to 'Apply this filter to nnn conversations below', otherwise - your iPhone will have nnn unread email conversations to deal with.

Finally, add the Yahoo Mail account to your iPhone's email account list. You may also wish to alter your iPhone's email fetching preferences so that Gmail will only be checked when you want to check it (Manual). Go into the iPhone's settings and select 'Fetch New Data' from the top group. Select 'Advanced', then select your gmail account and set it to 'Manual' (instead of 'Fetch').

Actually, you don't have to keep Gmail on your iPhone, but I do so I can override the 'From:' address to my Gmail account when I am responding to an email I am viewing in my Yahoo account. It makes it easier for the person who originally sent the email - otherwise you could end up with a situation where a 'reply all' ends up including both your Gmail account and your Yahoo account and you could potentially start seeing duplicate notifications of the same email, etc.

All that remains now is to test it out by sending an email to your Gmail account and waiting for your iPhone to buzz/alert/notify you of a new mail. Cool!

I'm not exactly sure what I was surfing for when I discovered how affordable terabyte (1,000 gigabytes, or 1,024 for the purists) hard drives are these days. 1GB memory modules have dropped considerably too.

Considering how much difficulty I had getting Dual 2.5 GHz PowerMacintosh that wouldn't overheat - I honestly went through FOUR systems before I got the magic fifth one that has given me no trouble whatsoever - I decided to extend the livelihood of this solid workhouse by giving it an infusion of an additional 4 GB RAM and replacing the 500 GB (cumulative total) hard drives with 2 TB (2 x 1000 GB) drives.
